CBAM

The mill’s real carbon data, [in every price]

European importers pay CBAM on steel and aluminium. When the mill doesn’t document its emissions, the EU applies a default value for China, and China’s steel association says it is almost double the real figure. HeavyDeals takes the mill’s real data to the price of every order.

For mills ↓
CBAM per tonne · hot-rolled steel from China certificate 82.32 € · Q3-2026
2026
Default value 179 €
Mill’s real data 22–55 €
2030
Default value 283 €
Mill’s real data 74–107 €
Less per tonne with real data 124–157 €

Real data: 1.6 to 2.0 t CO₂ per tonne (scenarios; China’s steel association reports 1.57 t for billet). 2030 at the same certificate price. Illustrative, not compliance advice. Calculate yours →

Our method

From the mill’s records to the importer’s price list.

  1. 01 The mill’s carbon file

The mill sends its emissions records as it keeps them, in Chinese. The AI reads them and assigns each figure to its installation and its customs code, following the EU method, precursors included: sinter, pig iron, crude steel. What is missing is flagged before anyone has to ask.

  2. 02 Ready for the verifier

The file goes out the way an accredited verifier asks for it. Once verified, it reaches the importer’s declarant through the EU operator registry.

  3. 03 The carbon cost inside the price

Each price in HeavyDeals is a formula: metal, exchange rate, duties, margin. CBAM becomes one more input, with the mill’s real figure or the default value, the free-allocation adjustment and the certificate price. When any of them moves, the price list is recalculated and a person approves it.

  4. 04 Suppliers compared on landed cost

The importer compares mills on what each tonne costs once it is in Europe, carbon included, and sees its tonnes add up against the 50-tonne yearly threshold from the purchase order, before the container sails.

For mills

For mills that export [to Europe]

Your emissions data decides how much CBAM your European buyer pays. We help you get it ready, verified and into their price list.

−124–157 €/t

Your figure, not the default

With verified data, your hot-rolled steel carries 124 to 157 € less CBAM per tonne in 2026 than a competitor on the default value. That is the difference on your buyer’s price list.

1 figure

The whole plant counts

The EU takes emissions by installation. Once your figure is verified, it applies to everything that installation ships to Europe, for every buyer, not only for one order.

82 €

Every tonne you cut has a price

One tonne of CO₂ less per tonne of steel is one certificate less for your buyer: about 82 € per tonne at today’s price. And it is worth more each year, as free allocation in the EU runs out until 2034.
